The Republican

Nine policy areas

Policies

Practical commitments, not slogans. This is what The Republican will push for on behalf of everyday Victorians, and what you can hold us to.

01

Cost of Living

Helping families get ahead again.

Victorians are being squeezed by groceries, energy bills, rent, mortgages, transport costs and government fees. Government cannot solve every problem, but it can stop making life harder.

Our commitments

  • Reviewing government fees, fines and charges that add pressure to households.
  • Reducing red tape that pushes costs onto families and businesses.
  • More transparency and competition in essential services.
  • Better planning to reduce congestion and transport costs.
  • Support for local jobs and practical economic growth.

Victorians deserve the chance not just to survive, but to get ahead.

02

Safer Communities

Every Victorian deserves to feel safe.

Safety is not a political talking point. It is a basic right. Every Victorian should feel safe at home, walking through their neighbourhood, using public transport, in their workplace or running a business, and raising a family.

Our commitments

  • Stronger responses to violent and repeat offenders.
  • Better support for victims of crime.
  • More visible community policing in growth suburbs and regional areas.
  • Early intervention, mentoring and culturally responsive programs that address the underlying causes of youth offending and support positive prevention pathways.
  • Stronger partnerships between police, schools, families and community organisations.
  • Serious action on family violence, repeat offending and bail breaches.
  • Putting women’s safety first by strengthening protections against domestic and family violence, improving support for survivors, and investing in prevention to break the cycle of abuse.

The best justice system prevents crime before it happens. But when offences are committed, the consequences must be fair, certain and proportionate.

03

Affordable Housing

Home ownership should still be achievable.

For generations, Australians believed that if they worked hard and saved responsibly, they could buy a home. That dream is becoming harder to achieve.

Our commitments

  • Faster planning approvals.
  • More housing supply in the right locations.
  • Infrastructure delivered alongside new housing, not years later.
  • Better support for genuine first-home buyers.
  • Fair rental protections that do not destroy rental supply.
  • Stronger accountability for land banking and delayed developments.
  • Long-term planning for Melbourne’s growth corridors and regional Victoria.

The dream of home ownership should be passed to the next generation, not taken away from it.

04

Growth Areas and Infrastructure

Communities deserve infrastructure before the crisis.

Too often, homes are built first and roads, schools, hospitals and public transport arrive years later. This is unfair to families in Melbourne’s outer suburbs and regional growth areas.

Our commitments

  • Roads delivered before congestion becomes unbearable.
  • More local schools, classrooms and kinder places.
  • Better public transport connections.
  • More health services in growth corridors.
  • Fair infrastructure funding for outer suburban and regional communities.
  • Planning that matches real population growth.

Growth should improve communities, not overwhelm them.

05

Healthcare

Healthcare should be there when you need it.

Nobody should have to fight the system when they are sick. Victorians deserve timely access to doctors, hospitals and healthcare close to home.

Our commitments

  • Recruiting, retaining and better supporting nurses, doctors, GPs, paramedics, allied health professionals and frontline healthcare workers to meet Victoria’s growing healthcare needs.
  • Reducing emergency department wait times.
  • Better access to bulk billing and affordable GP services.
  • More urgent care and community health services in growing suburbs.
  • Shorter specialist wait times.
  • Stronger aged care standards.
  • Better healthcare access in regional and outer suburban Victoria.

Healthcare should focus on patients, not bureaucracy.

06

Mental Health

Support should be available before crisis.

Too many people suffer in silence because support is hard to access or arrives too late. Mental health support must be local, affordable and culturally sensitive.

Our commitments

  • Earlier intervention in schools, workplaces and communities.
  • More school-based counsellors and wellbeing support.
  • Reduced waiting times for psychology and psychiatry.
  • Improving access and care for children, families and men through prevention, early intervention and timely support.
  • Culturally appropriate mental health services for diverse communities.
  • Stronger regional and rural mental health access.
  • Integrate Meditation and stress-management practices into schools, workplaces, healthcare settings, and community centres alongside existing mental health, violence prevention and peace building programs.

Asking for help should be met with support, not delay.

07

Education

Every child deserves a fair opportunity.

Education should prepare young people for life, work and future success. Every child deserves strong foundations, practical skills and safe learning environments.

Our commitments

  • Strong literacy and numeracy outcomes.
  • Better support and workload relief for teachers.
  • Safer, respectful classrooms.
  • More trade, vocational and applied learning pathways.
  • Faster support for students with disability and additional needs.
  • Better school infrastructure in growth areas.
  • Improved opportunities in regional Victoria.

Every child deserves the tools to build a good life.

08

Small Business

Small business keeps communities alive.

Small businesses create jobs, support local events and strengthen local economies. But many owners are struggling with rising costs, red tape, rent, energy bills and compliance pressure.

Our commitments

  • Less unnecessary red tape.
  • Faster government approvals and processes.
  • Energy cost relief for small business.
  • Faster government payments to small business suppliers.
  • Fair access to government contracts.
  • Support for multicultural and regional businesses.
  • Reviewing payroll tax, land tax and other state-level cost pressures.

When small business succeeds, communities prosper.

09

Government Accountability

Government should answer to the people.

Victorians deserve confidence that public money is being spent wisely and decisions are being made transparently.

Our commitments

  • Greater transparency in government spending.
  • Strong oversight of major projects.
  • Clear reporting on promises and delivery.
  • Strong integrity and accountability measures.
  • Better community consultation before major decisions.
  • Less waste, fewer excuses and more results.

Government works best when it remembers who it serves.
